House on the 12th Floor

An Apartment Designed by Taller ADG

The present design for the apartment’s interior is a conceptual play that attempts to humor the client’s original wishes for a house with a garden. As such, the interior design is based on two aspects: a functional diagram that gives ample space to all areas in the apartment along with a main hall that has an A-shaped ceiling, simulating a gabled roof. A vertical garden tops it off: a house and a garden.

The House on the 12th Floor, designed by Taller ADG, is a unique and innovative apartment that symbolizes the ideal of a house with a garden. Located in Mexico City, this 450 m2 apartment on the 12th floor combines functionality and creativity to create a one-of-a-kind living space.

The interior design of the apartment is centered around two main aspects. Firstly, a functional diagram ensures that every area of the apartment has ample space and is well-utilized. This allows for a seamless flow between rooms and creates a sense of openness and comfort. Secondly, the main hall features an A-shaped ceiling, reminiscent of a gabled roof, adding a touch of architectural charm to the space.

One of the standout features of the House on the 12th Floor is the vertical garden that adorns the dining area's wall. This unique addition brings the concept of a house with a garden to life within the confines of an apartment. The vertical garden not only adds a natural element to the space but also serves as a focal point, creating a visually stunning and refreshing atmosphere.

The design realization of the apartment incorporates a combination of materials and techniques. The walls, ceilings, and fixed furniture are finished in white, lacquered to a high gloss, creating a sleek and modern aesthetic. In contrast, the hardwood floors are oiled white oak, adding warmth and texture to the overall design. Lighting is carefully integrated into the walls and ceilings, providing a soft and ambient glow throughout the apartment.

The House on the 12th Floor was brought to life by a talented team of individuals. Alonso de Garay led the design process, ensuring that the concept and vision were successfully translated into reality. Micaela de Bernardi curated the furniture selection, incorporating leather, black textiles, and leather/wood pieces to complement the overall design. Jorge Torrentera oversaw the construction, ensuring that every detail was executed with precision.

This exceptional design project took six months to complete, resulting in a stunning apartment that challenges traditional notions of urban living. The House on the 12th Floor successfully combines the concept of a house with a garden within the confines of an apartment, creating a unique and inspiring living space.

The House on the 12th Floor, designed by Taller ADG, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2016. This prestigious accolade recognizes the apartment's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
